Kurogane was talking to a vender when she enthusiastically waved over Fai to look at what she’d found. “These are apples. Have you seen these? Yellow apples… I thought they were just red.”
“Hmm? Yes? The apples in Celes come in different varieties. Reds, yellows, and greens. Sometimes there’s a mix, commonly red and yellow and those tend to be very sweet like the yellow ones are.”
“Green, too… I’ve only seen red.” Kurogane eyed the fruit with child-like fascination. She eventually pulled herself way to look at a cart that held all sorts of colorful silks.
“Alright.” Kurogane started to lead Fai down the steps of the palace entrance to the front gate. “I’m not sure myself what’s all down here either, so we’ll look together.”
“Good. I’m glad you’re interested too.” Fai smiled at her and took her hand, holding it tight. “This is great. Even as a servant I have more freedoms here than I ever had as a rich lady in Celes. As long as the Queen says I can have a day off I can do whatever I want!”
“Well, of course.” Kurogane chuckled softly and squeezed Fai’s hand in return. “Her Highness isn’t your father, and you’re an adult, so do what you want.”
“Well then I’m going to hold hands with my girlfriend and mingle with commoners and get my dress dirty from the dust!” She announced proudly as they made their way to the market.
Kurogane only chuckled again, muffled through her closed mouth. The first thing that caught her eyes were how many vendors she saw lined up and down the streets. The second thing was how many of those vendors were selling fruits. It made sense that so many would barter something rich in juice in a desert city.
“Oooh! Look at all the fruit! Oh it looks so yummy and delicious!” Fai licked her lips but she was on a strict budget until Touya started paying her. She didn’t want to sacrifice anymore of her sapphires for something as petty as a snack.

“Yes, Majesty.” Kurogane bowed to her and took Fai’s hand as she turned around. “Shall we?”
“We shall. Good bye your Highness.” Fai gave another curtsy before taking Kurogane’s hand and walking out of the palace.
“Well, then,” Kurogane sighed once they were outside. “Since Her Majesty will be taking care of the house, I suppose we have to find something else to occupy our time. Did you still want to go into town?”
“Yes. His highness was dragging me everywhere the other day so I didn’t have much time to actually explore the town.” She chuckled a little.

She was still talking to Touya about a house and she looked up to see her love she got up and ran up to her. “Good morning Kurogane! We have a house!”
“Really?” She glanced at Touya, hoping whatever deal had been made was alright with her. She then patted Fai’s head gently. “That’s great.”
“Completely furnished, and we only have to pay back half the cost of it and we’ll be getting paid for our work too! It really is great!”
Kurogane’s eyes widened and her brows raised. She looked at Touya again and bowed graciously. “Thank you very much, Your Highness.”
“Think of it as a thank you for preventing that brat from going to Yuuko’s party with my brother.” She chuckled.
“We…we really are in your debt.” Kurogane smiled. “So that just means that after today, we’ll work harder.”
